DOOSAN Art Center DOOSAN Gallery is pleased to present the solo exhibition by Donghee Koo, one of the recipients of The DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Awards in 2010. Koo sheds light on the contradictions and absurdities that derive from daily life and language through installations, photography and video works. While employing or appropriating established methods and structure, Koo complicates the interpretation of her work by arranging and deconstructing them in an inconsistent manner. This exhibition presents Koo's new HD video works that focus on the associations between language and image, as well as her installation works that suggest the idea of absence resulting from misinterpretation of text.

Donghee Koo was born in 1974 in Seoul, Korea. She received B.F.A in Sculpture from Hongik University in Seoul, Korea and M.F.A. in sculpture from Yale University in Connecticut, NH, US. She has had solo exhibitions at Atelier Hermes(Seoul, KR, 2008), and Akademie Schloss Solitude(Stuttgart, DE, 2005). Her works have also been included in numerous group exhibitions at Centre Pompidou(2011, Paris, FR), Plateau(2011, Seoul, KR), Artsonje Center(2010, Seoul, KR), Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art(2010, Ansan, KR), Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art(2010, Adelaide, AU), Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art(2009, Kagawa, JP), Nam June Paik Art Center(2009, Yongin, KR), The 7th Gwangju Biennale(2008, Gwangju, KR) and Peres Project(2007, Berlin, DE).
